Sonic X Mario Generations

Story: In Sonic’s world, Eggman has once again stolen the Chaos Emeralds. In Mario’s world, Bowser has once again kidnapped Princess Peach. What at first seems like a routine adventure is actually part of a bigger scheme hatched by both villains. An alliance between Eggman and Bowser has taken over the Mushroom Kingdom and banished both Sonic and Mario into dream world where they encounter facsimiles of familiar friends, enemies, and locations. The two must collect the Chaos Emeralds in order to return back to the Mushroom Kingdom and vanquish both villains. Meanwhile, the two villains send visions of themselves to hinder the progress of the two heroes.

Gameplay Format: The game takes place in a 2-d format combining elements from both New Super Mario Bros and Sonic 4 in terms of play style. Up to 4 players can play at a time. All characters can use the wall jump and combination moves to launch opposite players out to either gain height or attack enemies. Occasionally, there are boss fights will switch to a three dimensional format reminiscent of the modern games from each series.

(Playable Characters)

Sonic- Sonic can use the Spin Dash in order to hit enemies and bricks from the sides. He can also gain speed using the same method.

Mario- Sonic runs fast as the default, but Mario has to hold down a button to gain speed which helps in making longer jumps and running on walls and loops. He also has the Spin Jump reminiscent of Super Mario World.

Shadow- Shadow is unlocked upon beating the game. He plays just like Sonic, but has the Homing Attack in addition to Sonic’s other moves.

Luigi- He plays just like Mario, but has faster speed and longer jumps.

Knuckles- Knuckles is unlocked upon beating the game. He has the addition of being able to glide and punch enemies in front of him. He can also use the Spin Dash

Peach- Peach is unlocked upon beating the game. She has the ability to hover for a brief time and shield herself via her parasol. She can also use the Spin Jump and dash like the Mario Bros.

(Items & Assists)

Rings: Rings are used the same way as in Sonic games and players will lose a life without them.

Fire Flower: The Fire Flower works differently for each character. For Mario characters it gives the ability to throw fire projectiles, but for Sonic characters it behaves similar to the Fire Shield from Sonic 3.

Water Flower: For Mario characters, the Water flower gives a projectile that can trap enemies in bubbles. These bubbles can be jumped on like trampolines while the enemy is floating in them. For Sonic characters, it gives the ability to bounce. For all characters, the Water Flower gives the ability to breath underwater, otherwise air bubbles need to be found constantly.

Lightning Flower: For Mario characters, the Lightning Flower fires off three slow moving projectiles. For Sonic characters, it gains a double jump that fires off two sparks below the character. For all characters, the Lightning Flower helps attract rings.

Yoshi: Yoshi can be ridden upon by all characters. As usual he can eat enemies, stomp, and use the Flutter Jump. In addition to this, he can inhale Sonic characters and shoot them out like a cannon bolt.

Tails: Tails will follow behind your character once you find him on the field. He can give airlifts and use combination moves similar to Sonic 4, otherwise he will mimic the player’s movements, using his Tail Spin attack in place of Mario’s Spin Jump.

Yoshi and Tails Combination: Tails can help out while a player is riding upon a Yoshi. Tails can give a flight lift while holding on to both the player and a Yoshi. This allows Tails to give an extra boost upward along with Yoshi’s Flutter Jump.

(DLC Characters)

Silver- Silver is one of the few Sonic characters that use the Spin Jump rather than a Spin Dash. Therefore, he runs similar to the Mario characters. He can also hover for a limited time and briefly bring up a barrier that reflects projectiles.

Donkey Kong- Donkey Kong is one of the few Mario characters that use a Spin Dash, except his is more similar to his roll attack from Donkey Kong Country. By standing in place and holding the down button while spinning, he can also pound the ground repeatedly, which is often useful for breaking bricks or hitting “?” blocks from above.

Blaze- Much like Silver, Blaze is one of the few Sonic characters that rely on a Spin Jump instead of a Spin Dash. Her Spin Jump resembles her fire tornado from Sonic Rush and she can also hover for a limited time. Also, Blaze will catch fire the longer she runs, allowing her to plow through enemies in her path.

Wario- Wario plays similar to the Sonic characters, except he does not tuck into a ball when he jumps. He does, however, have a chargable shoulder charge similar to the one in the Wario Land series. This can also be done in the air. Wario can also pick up can also pick up both allies and enemies alike to throw them at other enemies.

(World Map Info)

Chaotix Dectective Agency: All three members of the Chaotix are happy to go find artwork and music in exchange for Red Rings that are found in stages. Espio and Charmy will deliver their findings to the main characters on the field once they have made progress in unearthing unlockables. Kolorado from the Paper Mario series can also occasionally be seen paying a visit.

Toadette House: Toadette and Cream will welcome you within a house where items can be found from treasure chests. In the background, G-Mel can be seen playing with other Toads while Vanilla watches on.

Card Flip: Paying a visit to Amy and Daisy gives a chance to flip Tarot Cards. Matching cards will give a chance for extra lives, but be sure not to find Eggman or Bowser under them or it’s an instant loss. In the background, Chao can be seen playing with the baby versions of Mario and Luigi.

Waluigi’s Scam n’ Swap: In exchange for Rings, Waluigi will give an item, although he will also steal an item or give temporary effect that hinders the character’s playstyle for the next stage. However, if you acquire Rouge’s emblem along the way she will help steal back items or give an antidote. Characters from Wario Ware Inc can also occasionally be seen paying a visit.

Flight Deck: Funky Kong and Marine provide vehicles to help characters access previous levels. Diddy, Dixie, and the Babylon Rogues can also be seen occasionally paying a visit.

Museum: Professor E. Gadd runs a museum where artwork can be viewed and museum can be listened to. Boos and Boom are often seen flying about. Other familiar characters also occasionally pay a visit to admire the exhibits in the background.

Koopalings and EggRobo Patrols: These two types of enemies will often roam the World Map, often forcing players to combat them before progressing. However, items can be gained upon defeating them.

This is an idea I had for some time now. While I can have fun with the Olympic style games featuring these two, what I really want is to see a game that combines the two gameplay styles. I decided to share this and give an idea on what a true Sonic/Mario game would be like. I also originally intended to add more playable characters, but wanted to simplify things a bit. In addition, I wanted to share how Mario worlds would be like in a Sonic Generations style format. Had to make up a few names for a few levels, but hopefully longtime Mario players should be able to figure what I'm referring to.

Added some fan favorites as DLC characters. Was tempted to squeeze in Amy, but couldn't think of another appropriate Mario character to balance things out and didn't want to part with the Tarot Draw on the World Map. So, you're probably thinking, "how can DK and Wario be playable if they're also bosses?"." Well just think of the boss versions as the "classic" versions from their Game Boy incarnations back when they were both bad guys that had yet to get their own platformer. I also have new DLC stages based off Mario Kart and Sonic Advance, but sadly no bosses this time as I couldn't think of any.

Edit: Changed two boss fights to being Dry Bowser as seen in 3D Land and Eggman Nega as seen in Sonic Rush. Thought it would be appropriate to include the two main villains alternate counterparts just before the final fight. Not to mention the previously established "right-hands" of each villain in the form of Bowser Jr and Metal Sonic.
